Degenerates are back for new adventures, what’s the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special worth?
With the arrival of Disney+ in its equation, the MCU has free time to explore new formats. In January 2020, the house of ideas unveiled its first official series worn by Elizabeth Olsen. Since then, the team has multiplied the genre’s proposals with more or less success.
However, Marvel had never attempted the mid-range experience. That is Werewolf at night which will open the ball and which will prove to be a great success. The film directed by Michael Giacchino benefits from a welcome singularity within a highly calibrated universe. It must be said that the format is favorable since the budget is also less.
The method of distribution, through the platform, also allows him to free himself, if only slightly, from PG-13’s rule. Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays takes the same positioning with an unprecedented adventure of only forty minutes. Directed by James Gunn, the medium is seen as a seasonal interlude to the third and (final?) part of the band’s adventures. Here are 3 good reasons to see it.
It feels good
The return of the Guardians of the Galaxy to our screens has not been a long calm river. After two successful first films, the saga suffered a massive production delay. In 2018, James Gunn was working on writing the third film when problematic old tweets were discovered. Marvel decides to fire the filmmaker. A few months later he returns, not without having signed a contract with the competition: DC.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is in the news again, but Gunn needs to realize his own first Suicide Squad. Peter Quill and his gang will have to wait. The film will finally hit our screens next year. To keep fans waiting, James Gunn has one anyway holiday special in his hood.
We’ve had the opportunity to see it, and the least we can say is that the happiness of finding all your faces is undoubtedly there. This is especially true for Drax and Mantis, who are at the center of this new adventure. Often confined to the background in the rest of the saga, the unlikely duo offers up the poster and the result is worth the detour. Funny and touching, their little escapade on earth is the ideal gift for fans of the saga.
It is more important for the future than it seems
At first sight, Happy Holidays is not directly related to the plot of the third installment of the franchise. However, some details of this mid-length movie could be of capital importance for the sequel. We won’t say more to keep the suspense going, but lo and behold Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays probably isn’t a bad idea as we approach the release of the next movie.
Remember that the latter must release the May 3 in France. While plot details are still under wraps, finding Gamora should be an important part of it. We’ll have to wait for the first trailers to find out more.
For Kevin Bacon
We know Peter Quill’s passion for the 80s and icons. Born on Earth, the hero has a certain admiration for the emblematic actors of this period, and he will be served with this new adventure.
After David Hasselhoff, Star Lord will be able to meet another of its heroes. Kevin Bacon will not dance to the music of the film that made him famous, but there are some musical passages on the program.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays appears on November 25 on Disney+.
