Former Channel 9 sports presenter Cameron Williams will fight domestic abuse allegations at a hearing early next year.

Mr Williams, 59, appeared in Singleton Local Court on Thursday where he pleaded not guilty after his weekend arrest.

Williams was charged by New South Wales Police after officers were called to his rural Hunter Valley property in the early hours of Sunday morning following reports of a suspected domestic incident.

He was arrested after officers attended the Putty Road, Howes Valley address shortly before 1am on Sunday before being taken to Cessnock Police Station.

He was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and common assault and pleaded not guilty on Thursday to both counts.

NSW Police have also applied for an apprehended violence order on behalf of his wife Natasha Russo.

He was released on bail to live in Coogee, Sydney’s eastern suburbs, and on condition that he comply with AVO terms and behave well.

On Thursday, Magistrate Kevin Hockey scheduled the case for a four-hour hearing on January 20.

Earlier this week, Mr Williams’ solicitor Paul McGirr said in a statement that the case would be contested.

“Mr. Williams is a loving father and asks us to respect the privacy of his entire family during this difficult time,” Mr. McGirr said.

“At this point, the issue is contested. We’ll get a memorandum of evidence and go from there.
