An alert Indian expat has been honored by Dubai Police at his workplace for his bravery in arresting a fleeing thief with cash worth 2.7 million dirhams in Dubai’s Deira district.

Senior Dubai police officials surprised Keshur Kara Chavada Karu Ghela, a 32-year-old Indian expatriate, at his workplace on Monday to pay their respects, the Khaleej Times newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The incident happened last month in Naif area of ​​Deira district where two Asian men, carrying two bags containing Dh4,250,000 in cash of different currencies, were intercepted by the suspect, who seized a bag and fled, the report said. the director of the Naif police station, Dr. Major General Tariq Tahlak, as said.

“As the two Asian men were screaming for help, Mr Keshur saw the thief running with the stolen bag towards him. He bravely tackled the criminal, started struggling with him and pinned him to the ground until police patrols arrived and made the arrest,” Tahlak said.

His quick thinking helped foil a Dh2.7 million (about Rs.6.6 crore) robbery attempt in the Naif area, according to the report.

Ghela said he was happy to be honored by Dubai Police in the presence of his colleagues. He said he would forever cherish the Medal of Honor.

Led by Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Criminal Investigations, the delegation that visited Ghela at his office included a number of senior officials, according to the Khaleej Times.

Major General Al Mansouri explained that honoring Ghela in his workplace and among his colleagues and neighbors reflects the Dubai Police’s concern to reinforce the concept of community partnership and to strengthen the sense of responsibility among the people.
