Kobold VK7, analysis, installation, maintenance and opinion on the cleaning set from the manufacturer Thermomix

Vorwerk is the brand behind the famous Thermomix and is also responsible for the Kobold brand cleaning equipment, which is where the kit I’ve been reviewing for the past two weeks is located.

In the video of more than 20 minutes I recorded, I show all the details of all the accessories: the traditional vacuum cleaner, the one for corners, the one that cleans mattresses and the ideal ones for sofas and cars , along with the powders, liquids and Air fresheners included in the many boxes that have been preserved.

Vorwerk lent me the entire set for a couple of weeks, the bare essentials costing around 500 euros and the accessories, up to 500 euros each, so the full cleaning kit exceeds 1,600 euros.

Is it worth it? based. Let’s watch the video first, grab the popcorn, then let’s talk:

Video test of the Kobold VK7

As you can see, there are several advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages of the Kobold VK7

It’s a very complete solution with very well finished designs, ideal performance, a more advanced scrubbing system than any other cloth solution I’ve seen (although it still loses if we compare it to a Tineco), the ability to be placed horizontally to get under beds and closets, complete mattress cleaning solution, very thoughtful device for sofas (both for the cushions and the gaps between them), easy cleaning of all accessories, durability and good technical support.

I say durability because all Vorwerk products are known to last for years without issue, although in this case I was only able to test the Kobold VK7 for two weeks so I can’t guarantee it’s the same in that regard. Despite this, the quality of the materials is very good, I haven’t seen a spot that squeaks.

Disadvantages of the Kobold VK7

Kobold VK7

Since this is a brand with much more expensive products than the competition, there are other disadvantages worth mentioning besides the price. On the one hand we have the user manual. It’s very bad, it doesn’t show cleaning instructions, it doesn’t say what some of the buttons are for, it doesn’t explain in detail how to use it and forces you to go to the web or the app in search of help on this one respect. In my case, after testing thousands of devices over the past 20 years, I haven’t had many problems, but I did have to try and push and figure out what to do, like taking things apart and cleaning.

Another point that could be improved concerns the additional cleaning accessories. The device that scrubs needs Vorwerk Liquid, the one that cleans the mattresses needs Vorwerk Pulver, the vacuum cleaner has a Vorwerk air freshener tablet and Vorwerk dust collection bag… it creates a great dependency as it doesn’t show alternatives that one can use others , cheaper brands, always have to go to the Vorwerk market when the material is needed.

I was also very disappointed with the battery. You can’t vacuum, scrub, and clean the mattress in one morning because it needs to be loaded every two to three. At maximum power we only have 10 minutes of autonomy and at minimum power we do not have an hour. It charges in two hours, so it’s best to do one thing every day so you don’t lose patience. In one go I vacuumed the 80 m2 house, charged for two hours, then charged the sofa for 10 minutes at maximum power, charged for two hours, then washed, charged for two hours and then the mattress, in conclusion: all day with the subject.

It’s true that I managed to vacuum areas of the house that other machines can’t reach (e.g. under the closet), it’s also true that I managed to clean the mattress and it almost like to leave new and that the upholstery of the sofa is perfect, but everything comes at a price.

If we take into account that we have seen quite good vacuum cleaning solutions for around 300 euros and very complete scrubbing solutions for a little more, we would have to check the numbers to verify if it is worth spending more than 1500 euros for a cleaning kit of this type.

Quality pays off, that’s for sure, and so does longevity, so we’d have to see the condition of the Kobold VK7 and the rest of the solutions in five years’ time to see which devices still work like new.
