Mandurah’s Brittany Leigh-Wragg named Trainee of the Year at 2022 Australian Training Awards

The country’s brightest stars in vocational education and training have been honored at the 2022 Australian Training Awards, with Mandurah local Brittany-Leigh Wragg taking home another major gong.

Three of WA’s 11 finalists named winners at the awards night in Adelaide on November 18.

Ms Wragg was one of them, winning the national trainee of the year award for 2022.

As one of the first students to study a Certificate III in Defense Industry streams, she said the unwavering support of South Metropolitan TAFE and Curriculum Training Services helped her feel “ confident” about her chosen career path in a male-dominated industry.

This is Ms Wragg’s second major accolade, having been named Trainee of the Year at the 2022 WA Training Awards in October.

Wayne Ryder of WA, a graduate of the Australian Institute of Management WA, was named Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year for his work promoting the health and well-being of at-risk Aboriginal people.

The WA Department of Justice won the Australian Apprenticeships – Employer Award for its Raising the Bar Behind Bars program as a direct entry and was a finalist in the same category in 2021.

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said the training awards were a great opportunity to put WA’s best in the national spotlight.

“The VET sector is crucial to the growth and success of our state, and these awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the breadth and depth of talent across our country,” she said.

“Congratulations to all WA winners, runners-up and runners-up; receiving recognition at the national level demonstrates excellence at the highest level and is to be commended.

In addition to being recognized nationally as leaders in their field of study, training, or industry, winners in each category also received a $5,000 prize and runners-up received $2,500. .
