A Naxalite wearing an Rs 8 lakh reward on his head was found dead under mysterious circumstances with a gun next to him in a forest in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, police said.

The body of Deva alias Tirri Madkami was found in Jiakorta forest near Bhusaras Valley under Kuakonda Police Station, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P told PTI.

Tirri Madkami was wanted in nine Naxalite-related incidents and was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head, he said.

A weapon, a bag and a bottle of water were found near the body, the official said.

Tirri Madkami was a member of the Katekalyan (Maoist) area committee, which was instrumental in carrying out several major attacks. However, the organization has been experiencing infighting and recruitment crises for several months, the IG said.

Police had received reports in the morning that the body of an unknown man was lying in Jiakorta forest along the border of Dantewada-Sukma district, about 400 km from the capital Raipur, he said. declared.

A joint team from the CRPF’s 230th Battalion and police arrived at the scene, and the dead were later identified as Tirri Madkami, he said.

The exact cause of death will be known once the autopsy report arrives. On the face of it, police suspect infighting within the Naxalite group or Tirri Madkami’s anti-grassroots activities may have led to his death, the official said.

Police were probing every possible angle, he added.
