Under the new UK-India Young Professionals Scheme, the UK will offer 3,000 visas per year.

These visas will be granted to young professionals in the 18-30 age group.

Under this scheme, graduate Indian nationals can come to the UK to live and work for up to two years.

The scheme will be reciprocal.

The UK has more ties to India than almost any country in the Indo-Pacific region. Almost a quarter of all international students in the UK come from India, and Indian investment in the UK supports 95,000 jobs across the UK.

According to the Downing Street statement, “The launch of the program is an important moment for both our bilateral relationship with India and the UK’s wider commitment to forging stronger ties with the Indo-Pacific region to strengthen our two economies”.

Meanwhile, the UK is currently negotiating a trade deal with India – if agreed, it will be India’s first such deal with a European country. The trade deal would build on the UK’s trading relationship with India, which is already worth £24 billion, and allow the UK to seize the opportunities offered by India’s growing economy.

Alongside the mobility partnership with India, the UK government said it was also strengthening its ability to ward off immigration offenders.

“A historic Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the UK and India in May 2021 aimed at increasing mobility between our countries, returning those who have no right to be in the UK and India respectively and to share best practice on organized immigration crime,” the UK PMO said. added.
